Ask Sold0 to knock you up a packed lunch in case you get caught short. He's got all the ingredients. Fresh, too.

Re: Vietnam
It's a brilliant place to go. I did a 3 base, 14 days 2 years ago. Stayed in Ho Chi Minh city for a few days, went to Hanoi and went on loads of excursions, then 2nd week on Phu Quoc in a wooden cabin on the beach. Make sure you visit the war museum in Hanoi with the upside down F111 sculpture, and the Hotel Metropole for cocktails (in fact, stay there for a treat if the budget can stretch) and the ancient city of Hue. You'll get an idea why the Americans were up against it as these guys kept the Chinese dynasties at bay for a 1000 years, and to see and read how they brought down B52s and F111's is a thing of wonder, especially when you consider they are still in active service and the opposition in modern wars have no clue.

Food and beer is good, everything cheap and you'll have a fantastic time

Went last year with the family and looking to visit a different part next year...Fantastic place to visit. We stayed in Da Nang at the Vinpearl, and got the hotel shuttle bus to Hoi An most nights. Great people great food and cheapish for booze...Go before it gets spoilt like most of Thailand.

A good mate of mine called Dan was there years ago and he's not a fan as he lost both legs whilst serving as a Lieutenant.

It was hard for him for a while but he bounced back and ended up co-founding Bubba Gump Shrimp.

Schoffie

I have lived in Vietnam for almost 8 years and travelled around quite a bit.

It can be a great experience but not the best place if it is temples you are after - Laos, Myanmar or Cambodia would be better for that. However, Vietnam has great food, landscapes, people and beaches. Some interesting rather than stand-out sites.

November is a good time to go for most of the country as it is mostly dry but could be coldish in the far north (mountains) and they do get rain in the centre (around Da Nang).

Let me know if you need any info.
